HEALTH FOR HEROES     Strengthening Each Link In The Chain

The essence of mindfulness practice is focusing on one thing in the moment – each breath you take, each step as you walk, the sights or sounds around you.”

Psychology Today, March 18, 2010

Because Mindfulness developed from ancient Buddhist practices, we tend to think of it as being foreign, difficult, and without benefit for our society. Yet, Mindfulness practices are clinically proven to be useful for stress reduction and reducing or eliminating hypertension (high blood pressure). They can also help people minimize and cope with anxiety, depression, and chronic pain and help heal these and other effects of trauma. And, they are easy to learn and integrate into our daily lives enhancing our ability to perform at our highest potential.

Mindfulness has received attention due to the work of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. His completed studies have found that with Mindfulness training, pain-related drug utilization was decreased, and activity levels and feelings of self-esteem increased.

Kabat-Zinn states, “Mindfulness practice is ideal for cultivating greater awareness of the unity of mind and body, as well as of the ways the unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can undermine emotional, physical, and spiritual health.”

When the body-mind is in homeostasis or at the stillpoint, Mindfulness is naturally present. With Acupuncture Induced MindfulnessTM  or AIMTM ,  the NADA Auricular Acupuncture Protocol acts as a catalyst for Mindfulness and self transformation, replacing longer term or medication related therapies in support of therapeutic process. This means that one can move through their “work” more quickly and efficiently.

With minimal training, Mindfulness can even provide first responders with more flexibility in challenging situations where they must intuitively and skillfully know when to react and when to respond.

“Through his gentle style of Acupuncture, Evan has been able to facilitate a mental and emotional calm and openness to process in depths typically seen only through longer term or pharmaceutically enhanced therapies.”  Erin O’Shaughnessy, MA, MFT
